- Name: Mike Prikril
- Email: mprikri@ethus.jnj.com
- Position/Title in ETHICON: Engineer
- Number of years at ETHICON: 8
- How do you like working at ETHICON?: Somedays it's so fun that I'm amazed they pay me to do this. Other days...not so much
- Number of years participating with FIRST: 6
- Current role within FIRST: Whatever you need. Design, electical, programming...though sometimes not very well at any of them
- Reason for joining FIRST: Everyone knows what a doctor does or what a lawyer does, but (even though they've heard of them) not a lot of people know what engineers actually do every day. I joined FIRST because it allows me to show students what engineers do, how to do it, some of the tools we use and that it can be fun and challenging
- Favorite thing about participating in FIRST: That first meeting when all you have is a blank sheet of paper. There are endless possibilities at that point. 5 weeks from then, we're going to be standing around working on something because after that first meeting, we chose to go down this path. Those early design meetings are great because nothing is set, every option is open, and the decisions we make then will shape everything we do until the last competition.
- What is your favorite TV show(s)?: I'll watch anything on the Food Network (no, I don't know why).
Mythbusters, How It's Made, Dirty Jobs. My new favorite is American Gladiators What is your favorite book(s)? : Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (bonus points if you know what the Great Green Arkleseizure is)
Roving Mars : Spirit, Opportunity, and the Exploration of the Red Planet by Steve Squyres
I Am America (And So Can You) by Stephen Colbert)
- What is your favorite quote or saying? Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. - Thomas Edison
- Mention one thing about previous years's competitions that you will always remember: : Laying down on the floor of the Georgia Dome because we had about 20 minutes until our match started. We didn\'t have anything to fix, no strategy to discuss, so the drivers and I just laid down on the floor and relaxed before the insanity of the competition started.
- Where did you go to college?: Stevens Institute of Technology
(It's like MIT but for smarter people)
What do you like the most about the FIRST Overdrive game this year?: We get to drive really fast
- What do you like the least about the FIRST Overdrive game this year?: We will drive really fast into a wall
- How much weight do you think you gained from eating Pizza every single Saturday?: 124 pounds, 119.9 of it from the robot
- Feel free to add any other “PG-Rated” comments about yourself or the team: When I first started working with the FIRST team, judges would come up to me and ask me questions thinking that I was a student...that doesn't happen anymore :(
