Outreach Programs

Two of the guiding principles of R.O.B.B.E. are "Discere" or "To Teach" and "Incitare" or "To Inspire,"  as such we educate others in hopes of igniting passion about the benefits of S.T.E.M. and related fields, as well as making a positive impact on our community.

RVCC Meal Packing Event

Team members work together with RVCC Rotaract to help sort and pack meals that are distributed both locally and globally.

Eagles Halloween Event

Students dress up in scary costumes and participate in the Eagles lodge annual Halloween party as scary props outside.

Buddy Bot

The students go to the elementary and middle schools in partnership with the middle earth program and show case the robot and talk about the FIRST program.

Sponsor demo

The team loves to thank the sponsors by going to their establishments and demonstrate the robot and making a small presentation.

Salvation Army Coat Drive

We’ve partnered with the Salvation Army to collect and donate coats and winter wear. It’s a great event we look forward to every year it has a direct impact on the community.

Letters to the Troops

Wrote and mailed 100+ letters to our Troops overseas through Operation Gratitude, thanking them for their service and wishing them a safe return home.

Operation Smile Carnival

Operation Smile is an international medical charity whose global network of thousands of credentialed medical volunteers from more than 80 countries is dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children from more than 60 countries.

Through the partnership that Ethicon has with Operation Smile, our team contributes to the company’s fundraising efforts by participating in annual carnival that is hosted on their campus. It’s a cause we deeply believe in and proud to take part.

Community Tree Planting

Through collaboration with our local government and jointly with the BBHS Interact Club, we planted trees throughout the community in an effort to revitalize and “greenify” it. Our team also planted over 50 flowers along Main Street and built dozens of flower boxes from scratch.

Annual S.T.E.M. Events

The guiding principles of R.O.B.B.E. are "Docere" meaning "To Teach," "Discere," meaning "To Learn," and "Incitare" or "To Inspire."  We educate others in hopes of igniting passion about the benefits of S.T.E.M. and related fields.  We demonstrate the robot and hold workshops at various public events throughout the year.

Robot Reveal

First held in 2015, this is the event we look forward to most every year.  It is the official unveiling of our robot to the public. We’re proud to have our Board of Ed members, Mayor, County Freeholders, parents and sponsors attend. We start the evening off with a presentation talking about our team – sharing our goals, highlighting recent accomplishments, etc – and then lead into an epic reveal of our robot on our auditorium’s stage. The second half of the event transitions into our cafeteria where we hold an open house-style session that gives event attendees the opportunity to gain more intimate insight into the various sub-teams.

Marker's Day @ the Bound Brook Library

A great collaboration activity between the high school robotics team and the public library.  This program put on by the library is a full day of activities designed to promote fun with S.T.E.M. tailored to elementary and middle school students.  We not only conduct age appropriate workshops at the event, but we have even done workshops in Spanish when there has been sufficient demand.  Of course we also hold robot demonstrations at the event.

FIRST® Lego League (FLL) Competition and Engineering Day

First held in 2016, our team hosted a special competition for FLL teams that did not qualify for regional competitions.  In addition to our team staffing, judging, and refereeing the FLL competition, we also opened our school shop for tours.  Participants got to learn about other robotics programs in the school, as well as see a 3-D printer in action.  The awards for the event were also done on the 3-D printer by team members.  Feedback was very positive, and 100% of attendees want to see us hold the event again.  We look forward to adding this annual event to our permanent calendar.

Johnson & Johnson Engineering Showcase

Held at the world headquarters of our corporate partner's parent company, this day of innovation demonstrates advances in S.T.E.M. related fields as well as the work of employees at each Johnson and Johnson subsidiary. Our team engages engineers and community members in conversations while highlighting the robot and explaining our partnership with Ethicon.

Bring Your Child to Work Day @ Ethicon

Held at our corporate partner, Ethicon, this national program started as "Bring Your Daughter to Work Day." We conduct presentations about both our team and robot as well as let attendees try their hand at driving the robot.  Another way we try to inspire and connect with the younger generation.

Bound Brook Memorial Day Parade

In honoring those that gave their lives for this country, the Bound Brook Memorial Day Parade is a community favorite.  Our team proudly marches with the robot along the parade route until it commences at a town memorial remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.  The team is honored to take part in this event.

Somerset County 4-H Fair

The annual 4-H County Fair is always a highlight for the young and old in the area.  Our team staffs a table, distributes literature, and demonstrates the robot as a featured exhibit inside the Science Tent.  We do certain shifts throughout the three day event, and other teams in the area including teams 75 (Hillsborough) and 303 (Bridgewater) also take shifts during the event.

Bound Brook River Fest

This event kicks off the new school year and brings our community together while celebrates our township’s heritage and diversity. We’re always one of the most popular exhibits! Furthermore, we often have the opportunity to directly engage our Board of Education members as well as local business sponsors. What’s great, too, is that is serves as a precursor to our upcoming Buddy Bot events, because many of the students we work with later on remember us from River Fest.  We usually let interested parties test drive the robot at River Fest since it is after competition season.
